DUTCH CHARTS


 

Holland was the first country outside Sweden where ABBA became popular.  Way back in the winter of '61, the Dutch public got to know the work of manager Stig Anderson, when Ria Valk had a big hit called 'Rockin' Billy, that was written by him.   The next hit, directly related to Stig was "Ring Ring" performed by "Bjorn, Benny, Anna & Frida in the summer of 73.  Stig thought It would be wise to shorten the four names by the now famous four-letter-word 'ABBA'.  A group that dominated the hit charts in Holland during the 70s and early 80s.

Other guest today is Dutch male singer Albert West.  He has good memories of meeting ABBA in the studio. 
ABBA told him that they loved all his songs, especially his cover of 'Sitting In A Palmtree'. This was ABBA's last apperance on Toppop.
