ABBA cameo on the Kenny Everett show

Hi everyone.
Back in 1981 or 1982 ABBA
made a "cameo" appearance on British comedian Kenny Everett's
weekly television show.
A couple of weeks ago I noticed that the show is being repeated here in
Australia on one of our cable t.v. providers, "Foxtel" which
I have a connection to.
When I noticed it I thought "I really should start taping that in
case they show the ABBA episode", but then I forgot about it. It's
on every night at 11 p.m. and keeping a vigil would entail either remembering
and watching it every night or setting the video recorder.
Yesterday, my neighbour and friend dropped in and while we were chatting
he mentioned that he had been watching the show, how funny he finds it
and recommended I watch it.
This of course triggered my awareness of the show again and the fact that
I should be taping it in case the ABBA episode was screened. At the same
time I thought "out of the hundreds of episodes of this show what
are the chances that they'll show the ABBA episode anyway", the show
ran for many years.
So it was half heartedly that I sat down last night at 11p.m. and started
watching the show. Now, I thought ABBA only made one appearance right
at the end of the show so as far as I was aware I only had to tape the
last few minutes of each episode to catch the ABBA bit. As the show started
I thought "maybe I should hit 'record' on the video now just in case
my memory of ABBA's appearance is inaccurate". So I hit the 'record'
button.
Within a few minutes, there they were, ABBA, making the first of *4* brief
appearances on the show...I was absolutely stunned !!! Talk about absolute
luck given the lead up to my finally taping an episode of the show, I
still can't believe it.
ABBA's first appearance is about 5 minutes into the show, the four of
them are standing there facing the camera and they say in unison "Hi,
we're ABBA. Kenny Everett asked us to be on his television show, but we
said NO!!!". That was it, just a few seconds. If I hadn't been recording,
by the time I'd seen it, picked up the remote and hit recod I would have
missed it.
about 5 or so minutes later there they were again, this time for an even
briefer appearance. Same setting, standing, looking into the camera all
four of them say "and now something else". After they say the
word "else" Bjorn and Agnetha point in one direction and Benny
and Frida point in the opposite.
The 3rd appearance happens about 5 minutes later again, briefer again,
they simply say..."and now...this".
The last appearance occurs right at the end of the show after the credits
have rolled up (which include the words "with a special appearance
by ABBA" including the backward "b" which is interesting.
This appearance runs the longest. Same setting... first Bjorn says "What
is this program we're watching ?", Agnetha says "It's the Kenny
Everett Television Show", Frida says "Are We On It ?" and
Benny says "NO!!!", then all four in unison say "THANK
GOD!!!!".
Well, I guess you had to be there, but I was pretty excited and still astonished by the good fortune behind my being able to catch this in crystal clear video :-)
