ABBA NEWS
Right now ABBA are working in the TV-studio here in Stockholm doing a 52-minutes special with Dick Cavett, the well-known American interviewer and entertainer. This special will be shown all over Scandinavia middle of September, and many countries will of course follow. The programme is produced by Swedish TV together with Polar Music International AB, and the sales are handled by Swedish TV.
Before ABBA started their rehearsals for this TV-show - they will perform 4-5 songs live - they worked in the recording studio and have so far finished three songs for their new LP. The songs are called "WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE" / "SLIPPING THROUGH MY FINGERS" / "TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE". Two of these songs will be included in the TV-show. However, we have decided not to release any single for the time being but prefer to wait until the next studio session is over. ABBA will continue working in the studio in May, and we hope to have some more songs ready by middle of June. At that time we will pick a new single.
ABBA will have holidays from Midsummer (June 20th) to the beginning of August. They will spend their holidays either on their boats or in their summer houses around Stockholm - there is no place like Sweden in the summertime!! In August they are back writing and recording again, and we hope of course there will be a new LP out in time for Christmas.
Miteille Mathieu - the famous French singer - recorded a French version of ABBA's song "THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL" (French title "BRAVO TU AS GAGNE") in the Polar Music Studios end of last year. Björn and Benny produced this recording, and this is now climbing the charts very quickly in France and has already,sold over 160.000 copies. More French - Franck Pourcel has recorded two ABBA songs on his latest LP "Turbo Rhapsody" - "THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL" and "SUPER TROUPER". Franck Pourcel is released on EMI label in most territories.
The current single in the US and Canada is "SUPER TROUPER" and the reaction so far has been excellent. The chart numbers for the week of April 27 are BB 52+, CB 66 and RW 71+. The LP is still selling, very well - not only in the US but in most territories. It has now passed 900.000 copies sold in Germany. The response for ABBA's recordings,in Mexico, Latin- and South America is still overwhelming. ABBA's Spanish recordings,of "ANDANTE, ANDANTE" and "HAPPY NEW YEAR" have been great successes - and the same goes of course also for the LP "Super Trouper". In Brasil the single "THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL" has been no. 1 for several weeks etc.
We have published another folio with the songs from the LP "Super Trouper" called "ABBA SUPER TROUPER MELODY BOOK". This is a 52 page folio containing all the songs from the LP "SUPER TROUPER" plus "ELAINE" and "GIMME! GIMME! GIMME!). The songs are complete with melody lines, chords and the lyrics separate. It also contains lots of photos from ABBA's lives with their personal comments. This folio can be ordered from us. The price is Sw.Kr. 22:- plus freight.
The Ishockey World Championships 81 have just finished here in Sweden. (And Sweden won the silver medal.) The fanfare to these games have been written and recorded by Björn and Benny - and has been very well received. This fanfare will also be used in the opening of their TV-show with Dick Cavett.
As you can see everything
is going as planned with ABBA's activities, so even if there are no marriages
within the group any longer, they are all very good friends and they want
to continue working together as before - which we all of course are very
